OPENLab 2016 is an intense residency platform aimed to create new strategies
and ideas in experimental and interdisciplinary practice. OPENLab is looking for 15 artists from across South Africa to participate in the lab, lead by national and international facilitators.
Participating artists explore new ways to site based practices working across different communities, disciplines and geographical contexts. The emphasis is on participation, critical thinking, discussion and the creation of new ideas. OPENLab 2016 is a place for free experimentation and open dialogue.
The residency is open to arts practitioners in the visual arts, performance, architecture, fashion, dance, new media, sound art, design, community arts and other creative pursuits.
OPENLab 2016 will take place over 10 days from 14 – 24 July 2016 at the University of the
Freestate in Bloemfontein alongside the Vrystaat Arts Festival. It will also involve a weeklong
studio residency held at Modern Art Projects (MAP), Richmond in the Northern Cape.
